Virtual Mini-Academy: Roller Coasters- 6-8 Digital STEM Family Night
Winter Break 2022 starts December 19th! The STEAM Team has created a fun countdown to Winter Break with twelve daily space activities to do at home - like what does origami have to do with the Webb Telescope and how to make astronaut pudding. You can even join the Mission Patch Challenge - enter to win and have your patch created on the 3D printer (submissions due by January 10th)! Check out the attached powerpoint for all the activities and more details! Comment below if you plan to participate... We love seeing Blankner students continue their STEAM learning at home so be sure to share your pictures and videos with Mrs. Sarduy (Jessica.Sarduy@ocps.net) and Ms. Allen (Kimen.Allen@ocps.net)!
The Artemis I mission launched the Orion Spacecraft from Cape Canaveral to space early in the morning on Wednesday, November 16. Artemis I will be the first integrated flight test of NASA’s deep space exploration system: the Orion spacecraft, Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the ground systems at Kennedy Space Center. The first in a series of increasingly complex missions, Artemis I will be an uncrewed flight that will provide a foundation for human deep space exploration, and demonstrate our commitment and capability to extend human existence to the Moon and beyond. During this flight, the uncrewed Orion spacecraft will launch on the most powerful rocket in the world and travel thousands of miles beyond the Moon, farther than any spacecraft built for humans has ever flown, over the course of about a three-week mission. Orion is scheduled to return to Earth December 11, landing in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. Click on the links below to learn more, follow along with the mission, and find some fun activities to do at home!

The STEAM lab has been busy, already having their first two sessions. First, they introduced the theme through an interactive story-telling of Max Goes To Mars using VR google so the students could travel along with him. They also learned about Data Input, Processing, and Output by creating code to control a Robot Ball named Sphero.
A group of Blankner 5th grade students participated in a film competition in conjunction with their Everglades STEAM education. About the contest: Youth Making Ripples is collaborating with The Everglades Foundation to launch a new film competition called “Everglades Champions Making Ripples” focused on sharing messages about how the Florida Everglades are connected to our oceans. Only schools participating in The Everglades Foundations’ K–5 “Everglades Champion Schools” program are eligible for this competition. To learn more about the Youth Making Ripples and Everglades Foundation visit their websites. Join the virtual celebration in recognizing the competition participants!Click HERE to register for the Celebration scheduled for Friday, June 3 from 1:30-3 p.m.
